My Slow

I am participating in the Ban Busy Challenge from The Abundant Mama Project and the first thing to do is define my slow and to write a letter to a moment or a memory where my family and I experienced slow, simple living.
Dear Rocky Mountains,
The instant we had the trailer parked in it’s spot nestled in the majesty of your Mountains, slow joined us.  The very act of camping means simplier living.  Doing dishes by hand.  Funny how here I just don’t mind.  I watch the squirrel run past as I towel dry the plate, listen to the birds chirping as I pack the food away and relax by the campfire just staring into the flames.  Time stands still.  Our days are spent enjoying each other in the quiet hikes on your trails and sharing laughter and stories either in the trailer or around the campfire.  We are free to discover all of your wonders; birds, flowers, animals, rocks, trees, streams, lakes.  Slowly.  Simple things.  With each breath I filled my lungs with your presence and drank up your stillness.  Here we didn’t worry about keeping the house up, homework, swimming, soccer, laundry, or work.  Those would all be waiting but for now we could just be here. Thank you Rocky Mountains, after our trip I felt more grounded, centred and peaceful.
Until next time,
Bonnie
I know that I can’t escape to the mountains as often as I would like so I am searching for these same feelings in my daily life.  I have realized that my slow cannot only happen when my family takes a vacation from our everyday.  I also have to search for the slow in my everyday.  So that will be my next challenge.

My Slow is unscheduled, filled with opportunities for connection with my family and nature, playful and light, pausing and listening, observing and creating space within myself.

This is my starting definition.  I am sure it will change and grow as I do.

If you are interested in the Ban Busy Challenge you can find the details here as well as other mamas who are also in the challenge.  Joining is free and come #banbusy and find your own slow.

Cheers,
Bonnie
