POSSIBLE DREAM FOUNDATION

A special post today.  About a month ago I was approached by the Community Outreach Director of the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance to consider writing a post to bring awareness to Mesothelioma Cancer and a recent victim that lost his battle with cancer.  Most of us have been impacted cancer in some way or another. I do not know or have lost anyone to Mesothelioma Cancer. Mesothelioma cancer is a rare, and aggressive form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.  As a blogger I am blessed that I have a platform in which to share with you stories to bring awareness and support.

This is Camille and Michael Geraldi.  A wife and husband, nurse and doctor, duo who have devoted their career and life to children with physical and neurological conditions. Conditions such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy and more.  Since 1986 they have been adopting children through their Non-Profit Possible Dream Foundation to improve the quality of life of these children and adults by providing a loving home, and a caring family so they can reach their full potential.  Dr. Mike, as he was loving known as, was a physician/paediatrician his entire career only stopping months before his passing from Mesothelioma cancer.  Last year, Dr. Mike lost his battle with cancer passing away 1 day after turning 73 years old.  You can go to the Mesothelioma Cancer website to find more about this specific type of cancer.

Since 1986, Camille and Michael have been adopting children and providing a loving, caring home.  They have have been parents to 88 children.  31 of which are still alive today.

The Possible Dream Foundation does so much more then simply provide a home for the children.  It also provides job training for disabled adults, education for parents in care of special needs children, and therapeutic rehabilitation or hospice care.  Family members have become certified dog trainers for search and rescue and handicap assistance services.  Through this service the children are provided an opportunity to learn responsibility and bonding with the animals.

As you can imagine the loss of Dr. Mike has not been easy for Camille or the foundation.  As a mother, educator, nurse and motivational speaker, Camille keeps her husband’s spirit alive through the continued work of the Possible Dream Foundation.  You can keep his spirit alive as well by sharing the work of the foundation, volunteering in their local community or donating to the foundation. If you would like to find out more information about the Possible Dream Foundation or to donate please check out their website – Possible Dream Foundation. Or find them on Facebook.  Below is a infographic that will give a glimpse at the history of the foundation.
