REVIVE MY LIVING ROOM MOOD BOARD INSPIRATION
room updates, simplify/declutter, diy projects
This is the first part in my ReViVe My Home Series.  There will be a number of rooms in our house that need updating or renos but first we are looking at our living room found at the front of our house.  A little background to our house.  We have been living here for 11 years.  Most of the furniture came with us, or my husband.  Our house was originally built in 1992 and still has its original floorings, carpet, cabinets, counters and curtains.  Our carpet is pink although hard to tell from the photos and as you will find out our countertops and some walls are also pink.
What my living room currently has:
  1. 2 different coloured furniture pieces
  2. Old rocking chair – I have a hard time with this one as I rocked my babies in it.  A lot!
  3. Lots of plants – they are my husband’s favourite so I have to find a way to incorporate them in the room.
  4. Glass side tables (I don’t even know how they didn’t break with having 3 young children)
  5. Gorgeous blue towel accenting the flower plant pot.  The pot drips water onto my carpet and without the towel it would stain the carpet.
  6. My fake dog hiding in the corner.  I got as wedding gift and I think he has literally been shoved under that table for the last 11 years.  Why do I keep it?  What to do with it?
  7. TV and Wii gaming console.
  8. Walls are beige – previous owner had painted the main floor when selling the house.  Funny most other walls upstairs are pink.
  9. 2 Lamps beside side tables.  Also came with husband.
  10. DVD/Wii Game storage tower – currently behind rocking chair.

Problems that I need to solve in my living room:

  1. How to incorporate the plants and keep them because my husband loves them but I find them to make the whole space too crowded.  They also need the sun from front window.
  2. Change plant pots so that they don’t potentially leak onto carpet.
  3. How to update my living room on a budget.
  4. Enough seating for a growing family of 5 along with space for visitors.
  5. Remove Wii gaming console to another location and Wii game storage would go with it.
  6. Placement of DVD Tower/or alternate DVD Storage.
  7. Repaint walls.
  8. New flooring/carpet.
  9. Front window – new curtains.

I want my living room to feel cozy and comfy.  A place where the family can chill to watch our family movie nights but also sophisticated enough to entertain adult guests.  This is the place I usually hang out reading or watching TV.  I have created an initial mood board to get the ball rolling.  My husband and I both love the aqua colour but this time I would like to go with a neutral couch of grey or charcoal.  Right now I’m thinking pops of a coral colour as an accent colour.
