ReViVe 4.0.2.0.1.6 MY ROAD MAP TO THE YEAR

Revive one little word for 2016 on Adalinc to Life

No resolutions here just life road map building.  2 years ago I started dedicating my year to one word.  The concept was new to me but it helped to focus my intentions better than just simply setting resolutions. In 2014 my word was Energy and last year my word was Strength.  This year I feel is a big year for me even though I’m approaching it with a bit of apprehension.  I turn 40 this year.  Wait, what?  I’m going to be 40.  I can’t be 40, I remember when my mom turned 40.  I remember the jokes, the toilet papering of her car, the practical jokes played on her at work, the cake made by my cousin.  It can’t be my time, is it?  Will all of this happen to me?  No, I don’t think so because turning 40 is a lot different for me than it was my mom.  Truth be told, I’m not really sure how I feel about turning 40.  I think part of is because I got lost in the time of motherhood and raising children.  My daughter is only 5 whereas I was 17 when my mom turned 40.  Is turning 50 the new 40?  You always hear about men going through a mid-life crisis how about women?  I’m not in a mid-life crisis but I do sense the changing landscape of my life this year where there will have to be some choices and decisions to make.  My biggest one will be possibly – reentering the workforce again after about 8 years at home as a stay at home mom.  I had left my career as a high school teacher after my second son was born and now I feel like I have to decide to go back or not as my daughter will be starting grade 1 in the fall.  When my mom was turning 40 I was finishing high school and with me my daughter is just beginning her schooling years.

Here is my burning question: what does it mean to be a women in her 40s nowadays?  I feel like I will be journaling and exploring this topic a lot this year.

So back to my word of the year. Because I’m contemplating changes in my life I have decided this year everything will revolve around this word – REVIVE – not only is it my One Little Word for the year following the scrapbooking class from Ali Edwards, it will become my road map to give new strength and energy to different areas of my life.  I’m hoping to apply it across many different avenues of my life.

To help Revive these avenues of my life I will need to take a close and hard look at my habits.  I have already started doing that as I have been working through Gretchen Rubin’s new book Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives to help me understand how I change and create habits that work for me.  I have written a few posts related to how I’m working through this book and will continue to use it and work through it in the new year.  Reviving my life will entail changing some habits.  Here is the start of that habit changing journey.

Here is my beginning list of areas I will be working on this year:

ReViVe My Health & Fitness – This so on top of most resolutions this time of year.  I have never set resolutions as I will lose ‘x’ amount of pounds in 3 months I have always been more of changing to a healthier lifestyle.  That is where the habit changing plays a key role.  Food and Fitness.

ReViVe My House –  We have been living in our house for 11 years now and the inside is beginning to look very tired an outdated.  It is time to focus on making changes/renos in our house to bring new life to it.  I’m hoping that most of those renos will tackle ourselves.

room updates, simplify/declutter, diy projects

ReViVe My Relationships – This one I hope to rekindle friendships and make new ones as well as keep the spark going between my husband and I.  We have been married 10 years now and have 3 kids.  I will be trying to carve out more adult mama/papa time.

ReViVe My Passion/Career/Creativity/Writing – I have been working on this one actually for the past 2 years but I want to continue the momentum so my renewed energy in this area doesn’t fizzle.

ReViVe My Style/Makeup/Hair – As you can imagine as a stay at home for the last 8 years my style has been, what style?  As a 40 year old women beginning to entertain the prospect of reentering the workforce I would like to revive my style this year.

Bold and ambitious, perhaps, to try and revive so many areas of my life but I just plan on plugging away on different things at different times.  Next I have to create my action plans for the year.  If you would like to follow along on my journey as perhaps you are at the same point in your life as well.  You don’t have to be turning 40 to want to Revive areas of your life, I’m here to encourage and spark ideas.  Any journey is better with fellow travellers.  I will be celebrating turning 40 in January and I will have a week of posts with some giveaways.  *Remember to sign up to receive my newsletter if you don’t want to miss anything or subscribe by email to know when my posts are live.

Do you have a guiding word for 2016?  Do you find them helpful at all?  I would love to hear about your experience with guiding words, what works and what doesn’t work for you.   I know I don’t maximize the potential of my word so this year I’m hoping to improve upon that.

Here is to a year of reviving and cheers,
