Our latest find at the library is Traction Man Meets Turbo Dog by Mini Grey.

Here is the latest instalment of our treasure finds from the library.  Traction Man meets TurboDog by Mini Grey is the second book starring Traction Man written and illustrated by Mini Grey.  We have not read the first book but we are on the look out for it as my 6 year old loved the book.  I’m always curious and interested in what types of stories and books appeal to my children.  Each of them is a little different and as a result the books they like reflect their personalities as well.

This book was chosen by Mr. Yoda (he is almost 7 now) and in the last year he has really begun to take in interest in stories and books.  Of course, this makes me ecstatic.  He is more interested in choosing his own books from the library instead of mama just bringing home a stack.  He was initially drawn to this book based on its illustrations and his curiosity about TurboDog.

The reader is taken on a wildly imaginative adventure of a boy’s toy superhero know as Traction Man and his sidekick Scrubbing Brush.  In Traction Man meets TurboDog, scrubbing brush disappears and is replaced by a new sidekick, TurboDog.  Traction Man can not live without his long time sidekick scrubbing brush and embarks on an adventure to find his friend.  In the end, Scrubbing Brush is saved and superhero and sidekick are reunited.

The story opens with the boy playing in his backyard with his toys and then the reader is transported into the world of Traction Man and Scrubbing Brush where they scale Mt. Compost Heap guided by the Ancient Potato.  When they reach the top they sit and have lunch.  I just loved the imaginative nature of the story and the illustrations.  That is what a old potato would look like after while in a real compost heap.  It is after this adventure that the real life parents of the boy determine that the real scrubbing brush is just too disgusting and dirty for their son to play with anymore and they toss it in a garbage can.  When Traction Man realizes his sidekick has disappeared he begins a search to find his lost partner.  Where he find him in a garbage can surrounded by the evil left overs who want him to stay.  But Traction Man will save the day!

The above pages were my son’s favourite.  He loved the scene here where the pizza slice gets taken down by Traction Man and then saves his friend.

I love when we discover a new author and my son is excited that there are more Traction Man books. For more creative fun head over to Mini Grey Website where she has loads of cool activities for her books.  Seriously go check it out!

What was your latest discovery at the library that got you or your kids excited?  I would love to hear about all of your great finds.
