My Review:

This was my family’s first introduction to The Adventues of The Loveable Lobo Series by author C.L. Murphy and this book titled Lobo Goes To The Galapagos was a marvellous introduction to the wolf pup and his group of friends.  In this adventure Lobo and his friend Roxy the Raven discover a bird they have never seen before.  This bird has crashed onto their beach after a storm and injured his wing.  After they mend him, they commit themselves to helping Bobby The Blue-Footed Booby bird find his home and return him to his own beach.  And so their adventure begins.
Along the way, they will meet many new friends including Sunny the Seagull, who isn’t very sunny in the beginning, and Coconut the Crab.  They will all help Lobo find Bobby’s home even though it takes them awhile.  Eventually they find the right beach but Lobo realizes that Bobby lives on a island and he doesn’t know how they are going to get him there.  That is when they met Sandra the Shark who Lobo is very scared of because he doesn’t want to get eaten.  But he recognizes that taking a ride on Sandra is the only way to return Bobby to his home.  It takes a huge amount of trust but all the friends do it and Bobby is happily returned home.  Even Sunny the Seagull is so excited that he makes a sand angel in the sand.  Here there is a very cute and adorable picture of Sunny that had my kids giggling at the seagull’s funny face.
So many possible themes could be discussed from this story : friendship, teamwork and never giving up even when one must confront fears.  In addition, a quick geography lesson can be done showing children where the Galápagos Islands are in comparison to their own country, or city.  The illustrations are bold and vibrant and there is a cuteness factor with all the characters including Sandra the Shark.  My 7 year old read this book to me and said he enjoyed it.  ‘It was a nice story.’ he said.  His favourite part was the funny face of Sunny the Seagull making the sand angel.  My favourite scene was the sunset scene where the friends pause in their adventure and just enjoy the beauty of nature in front of them.  I would recommend this story for kids aged 3-7.

“Who knew geography and learning about animals could be this much fun? Lobo Goes to the Galapagos is my new favorite children’s book and is highly recommended. ” ~ Jack Magnus, Readers’ Favorite
“While Ms, Murphy’s uniquely whimsical and vibrant illustrative style is perfectly suited for the wild, tropical feel of this colorful book, and easily captures young readers’ attention, there is also a subtle, quiet beauty to the storyline’s overarching themes of friendship, trust, perseverance, and goodwill. Lobo’s tenacious and giving spirit are delightfully captured in this fifth installment of puppy-fueled fun. In fact, it’s sincerely so easy to fall in love with “Lovable” Lobo that I’d happily follow this well-meaning, big-hearted, wolf pup to the very ends of the earth!” ~ 5 Star Review, Indie Author Girl, Amazon
“What an adorable story! I read this to my nephew and he couldn’t stop giggling at the silliness of Roxy as well as Lobo’s cute friends Bobby, Sunny, Coconut and Sandra. The author was very clever in portraying a tale of friendship, adventure and excitement that is sure to enthuse young minds around the world.” ~ 5 Star Review, Gina D., Amazon

About the Author: C.L. Murphy

C.L.Murphy

While new to the children’s book writing and illustrating scene, C.L. Murphy (Cathy) has been doodling her way through life since she won a school wide poster contest in the third grade. She’s had the pleasure of working as an artist in residence, creating cartoons and painting murals with the children at local elementary schools. She adores the wonder and curiosity of young children. She feels that creating picture books is something that she was destined to do, after years of filing away so many ideas, while raising her two sons. She is a member of SCBWI. She lives amongst the wildlife in an enchanted forest in the beautiful Oregon wilderness with her husband and menagerie. She has always appreciated nature and animals have always played a major role in her life. The inspiration for the Lovable Lobo character came from a wolf that she raised for over 14 years. Check out her book series and discover that you, too, will find Lobo lovable.
