My sons have been taking Taekwondo since January and the poem I wrote was inspired by all the positive work that they have been working on there.  Every two months everyone works on what they call a life skill.  So far they have done Goals, Courtesy, and Attitude. And this term they have been working on memorizing this quote:

One of the biggest things that stumps most people are negative thoughts.  They get a hold of you and turn you in a direction you are not meant to go.  Kids face so much pressure to perform, fit in with friends and match parents expectations.  In the Taekwondo class they stress confidence but it is hard to be confident with negative thoughts swirling in your head.  What are you to do with these negative thoughts?  This poem is about standing up to your negative thoughts, acknowledging that they are there and then stomping on them and rubbing them on your pants.  Like a pesky bug you just squashed!

The above photo was created in PicMonkey.  The poem is my own.  I just ask that if you like it, if you could please link back to my post.  Email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions.

I would love to hear how others teach children/teenagers/adults how to combat negative thoughts.  For those of you who have been following me you know I love books so soon there will be a list of books I use to help with overcoming negative thoughts with myself and my children.  If you have any book suggestions I always love those as well.

Remember you are much more than your thoughts,
Bonnie
