DIY WICKER BASKET REDO

DIY Wicker Basket Upcycle

How many wicker baskets do you have in your house?  I have a few but this little gem was won by my son in a classroom draw at the end of the year.  Don’t get me started as to why a teacher would include this as a draw item.  My son was just happy he won something but all I could think about was what am I going to do with this?

And so it floated around my house for a few weeks and I was ready just to add it to the GoodWill donations but he wouldn’t part with it.  He wanted to have some use in our house.

Apparently because he never wins anything this saved this little wicker basket.

This is not a sponsored post.  This is just what I did so I could find a place for this wicker basket.  I didn’t even have a place for it as a garbage can.  I decided it would be repurposed into a container for the abundant of things in my daughter’s bedroom.  She is the youngest and doesn’t have a lot of storage yet in her room.  I thought if I could make it pink or purple it could be cute in her room.

Spraying Painting A Wicker Basket

DIY Wicker

We have had a lot of hot days here so I placed an old shower curtain on my grass as you want to do this in a very well ventilated area.  I followed the directions on the can and the rest was easy.

I started with spraying the inside of the basket.  I did 3 coats waiting about 15-30 minutes between each coat.  The can does say wait only about 1 minute between thin coats but I have never used this product before so I waited anywhere between the 15-30 minutes. After the inside was done I did the outside.  Same process and time.  And last I flipped it over and did the bottom.  Same process and time.

Then I left it outside for a few days to get rid of the stinky paint smell before putting it in my daughter’s room.

Using a Wicker Basket as a Doll and Tiara Organizer

Doll Organizer
First, I gathered some of here many princess dolls and placed them inside.  They were a good fit.
Then I found some of her tiaras and headbands and hung them off the side.
Tiara Organizer

I guess this little wicker basket ended up with new life in our house.  My son was happy because his prize stayed in the house, mama’s happy because I found a use for the wicker basket and my daughter is happy because she has a new doll and tiara organizer in her favourite colour.

Cheers,
