Hi Everyone,

I’m very excited today to tell you I have an original post over on Blogher about different areas to do research and have discussions with your kids before you buy or give them a phone.  I used to think that a tween meant 11 to about 14 years old but now a tween is actually 8-12 years old.  If you have been following my blog, my eldest is now 9 and my middle son is 7 1/2.  When did a tween enter my house?  I’m lucky so far in that my boys have never really asked about phones except this year where they claim most kids in their class have an iPod or a phone.  Here is what I say: ‘owing a phone or iPod is a huge responsibility as they are expensive and have other issues which you(here I also mean me) are not aware of yet.  Mama and Papa have to do our research first and look into things and then we will make a decision that is right for our family.’  So far, they don’t argue.  But I know times are changing and I do realize their tween/teen years will be very different from mine because of this technology so I do have to do my research.  If you head on over to the Blogher site you can read my article and if you have any other areas I should be looking into then drop me a comment either here or over there.  I’m not considering purchasing a phone for my child as I don’t believe they are ready yet or in need of one.  I am tossing around the idea of the iPod though, but I had no idea you could text with those.  I have so much to learn.  How about you, do you have a lot to learn?
